not meant to appear to the everyday motorist. They exist in various forms
with lots of optional equipment and are all fast, nimble Grand Tourers.
All Elites and Eclats are based on the same backbone chassis, twin-cam
Lotus four-cylinder engine, all-independent suspension and glass fibre
bodywork. They share the same nose styling, screen, front doors, facia
and controls and are of the same wheelbase. The only real difference is
in the level of optional/standard equipment and body styling rear of the
doors. All cars built up to the spring of 1980 had engines of 1973cc and
later 2174cc. This is a book of contemporary road tests, technical and
specification data, long-term reports, buying second hand, driving impressions.
